Test GFCI outlets to ensure they're in proper working order.
Inspect and test-run furnace to ensure it's working properly; have any work done on the furnace before winter.
Inspect the dryer vent for lint build-up and clean as necessary - move the dryer away from the wall, unplug it and vacuum behind it. Then unhook the tube that leads to the vent and clear as much lint from the tube as you can.
Deep clean all carpeting (or have it professionally done).
Inspect weather stripping around doors and windows - if it's torn or missing, replace it.
Maximize closet space by rotating out-of-season clothes to the back and moving forward the heavier winter clothes.
