PAINLESS TIPS FOR CONSERVING ENERGY (AND SAVING $$!)
[Print Version]
Click the link above for a full listing
Do what your father told you and turn off lights in rooms you're not using! It seems so obvious, but it's true!
Consider installing dimmer switches and three-way lamps that will provide low light when bright light is not needed.
Consider using compact fluorescent bulbs in your light fixtures to conserve energy. These cost a bit more at purchase, but pay for themselves in the long run through the savings you'll see in energy bills.
Unplug electronics with digital displays that are not used often (such as an alarm clock, TV or DVD player in a guest bedroom).
Unplug chargers for electronics or batteries.
Wait until you can fill up your dishwasher completely before running it. If it has a heat-dry option, switch to air-dry instead. You can prop the door open a bit to allow air in to dry the dishes.
A full refrigerator actually runs more efficiently than a partially full one. So it's okay to stock up on the refrigerated food from Costco or Sam's!
